Assistant DC of Kamrup caught red-handed for demanding bribe, arrested
Guwahati, 16th October: The Assistant District Commissioner of Kamrup in Assam, Dipankar Kalita, was apprehended by the state’s anti-corruption unit for allegedly demanding a bribe.
Vigilant officers caught him red-handed, demanding money to process a government file within his department.
The vigilance team conducted a raid that led to his apprehension.
In a separate incident on October 15, Sewali Chakravorty, a government official from the Binakandi Development Block in Hojai district, was also caught in a bribery case.
The Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, took swift action upon receiving a complaint, resulting in her arrest and the recovery of the illicit funds on the National Highway at Niz Kathiatoli.
The complaint lodged with the Directorate accused BDO Sewali Chakravorty of demanding a substantial bribe of Rs. 2,00,000 to expedite payments for work completed by the complainant’s brother. Not willing to yield to these demands, the complainant sought legal intervention from the Directorate
