Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve to remain open on Wednesday afternoons

Guwahati, 17th October: Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve, overseen by the Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, has made a noteworthy decision to open its doors to tourists every Wednesday afternoon.

Earlier, the Divisional Forest Officer of Eastern Assam Wildlife Division had restricted access due to poor road conditions caused by adverse weather. This restriction allowed only Jeep Safaris in two specific ranges: Kaziranga Range, Kohora, and Western Range, Bagori.

A formal order stated that these ranges would remain closed every Wednesday afternoon.

The order copy read, “The Kaziranga Range, Kohora and Western Range, Bagori will remain closed every Wednesday afternoon”.

However, recognizing the importance of serving the public, this order has been temporarily rescinded.

The Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, famous for its one-horned rhinoceros, officially kicked off the 2023-24 tourist season with the presence of the state forest minister, Chandra Mohan Patowary.

Various activities marked the opening ceremony, including river tourism at the Bhomoraguri beat office, Kaziranga cycling starting from the Kohora Convention Centre, exciting Jeep safaris, and environmentally conscious tourism initiatives led by women at Mihimukh.

It needs to be noted that the park typically closes from May to October due to the risk of Brahmaputra river floods.
