Two Manipuri filmmakers shine at 69th National Film Awards
Northeast Desk, 18th October: Two acclaimed filmmakers from Manipur, Mayanglangbam Romi Meitei and Saikhom Ratan, received awards at the 69th National Film Awards in New Delhi.
President Droupadi Murmu presented the awards during a ceremony attended by Indian movie stars and promoters. Romi was recognized for his film “Eikhoigi Yum” in the best Manipuri feature film category, marking his transition from commercial to non-commercial cinema.
Ratan won the best biographical non-feature film award for his work “Beyond Blast.”
Both filmmakers expressed their happiness about the accolades but were concerned about the ongoing conflict in Manipur.
Jury member Borun, a national awardee filmmaker, noted the importance of films made with passion and the right intent, mentioning the success of Manipuri filmmakers in both feature and non-feature categories.
