Sikkim Welcomes Season’s First Snowfall Amidst Recovery Efforts

Northeast Desk, 18th October: Sikkim, the picturesque state nestled in the Himalayas, witnessed its first snowfall of the season on October 17. The charming regions of Tsomgo, Dzuluk, and their surroundings were transformed into a pristine white wonderland after the snowfall.

This natural event coincided with the authorities resuming permits for these areas, allowing tourists to visit. This decision follows a devastating flash flood that recently claimed the lives of nearly 38 people and caused extensive damage to thousands of houses in the region.

The snowfall brought a significant drop in temperatures in the capital city of Gangtok and its environs. The cooling effect of the snowfall was welcomed by locals and visitors alike.

Furthermore, the snowfall has triggered renewed interest in Sikkim as a tourist destination. The state had been seeing an influx of tourists, with travel planners receiving bookings from across the nation following the flash flood.

Additionally, it’s anticipated that the highway leading to Gangtok from Sikkim will reopen, providing easier access to the state. North Sikkim, which had been cut off due to the flash flood, is also expected to be accessible once again after a month.

The combination of snowfall’s natural beauty and the region’s recovery efforts marks a promising period for Sikkim.
