Delhi HC Bids Farewell to newly appointed Chief Justice of Manipur HC Siddharth Mridul
National Desk, 18th October: The Delhi High Court organized a full court reference to bid farewell to Justice Siddharth Mridul, who has been elevated as the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court. Speaking at the gathering, Satish Chandra Sharma expressed his confidence that Manipur would greatly benefit from Justice Mridul’s experience and dedication to justice. He acknowledged that while there would be a void in the Delhi High Court, this move was a gain for Manipur.
Assistant Solicitor General (ASG) Chetan Sharma also shared his hopes that Justice Mridul’s presence in Manipur would bring peace to the region.
Justice Siddharth Mridul’s appointment as Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court was announced on Twitter by the Union Law Minister on Monday. His elevation follows a recommendation by the Supreme Court Collegium, as the government failed to act on the earlier recommendation for Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur’s appointment.
Justice Mridul has been serving as a Judge of the Delhi High Court since March 2008 and has been the senior-most puisne Judge in his parent High Court.
In addition to this appointment, the Collegium also reiterated its earlier recommendation to transfer Justice M.V. Muralidaran from Acting Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court to the Calcutta High Court for the better administration of justice.
Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar’s elevation to the Supreme Court had created the vacancy for the office of Chief Justice in the Manipur High Court in February this year.
