Mizoram Assembly Election: 23 Candidates Submit Nominations, BJP Unveils List

Northeast Desk, 19th October: A total of 23 candidates officially submitted their nominations for the upcoming state Assembly election as of 18th October. Among these candidates, twelve represent various political parties, including the incumbent Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia, marking a significant participation from the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF).

The nomination submissions also included four independent candidates, while the Indian National Congress put forth seven of their own candidates. Notably, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a significant central party, and the main opposition party Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) have yet to file their nominations.

Adding to the election buzz, the BJP unveiled the names of 23 candidates on Wednesday, including the Speaker of the outgoing House and several members who recently switched allegiance from the MNF. This announcement brings a fresh set of faces to the forefront, with four of these candidates being women.

The deadline for nominations is set for October 20, a date eagerly awaited as more candidates are expected to join the race, further shaping the landscape for the November 7 Mizoram assembly elections.
