Manipur: Security forces seize huge cache of arms in East Imphal district

Northeast Desk, 20th October: A huge cache of arms and ammunition and other equipment were seized on October 19 in Manipur.

As per reports, a joint operation by the district commando of Imphal East, the Sagolmang police station, and units from the 2/8 Gurkha Regiment in Manipur led to the seizure of a substantial cache of arms, ammunition, and related equipment.

Search operations were carried out in the susceptible regions of Kakching, Bishnupur, and Churachandpur districts within Manipur, resulting in the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition hidden in the Waken, Shantipur, and Khamenlok ridges under the Sagolmang Police Station’s jurisdiction.

A total of 36 arms were recovered including sophisticated weapons such as AK-47/56 rifles, improvised rifles, carbine machine guns, lathode launchers, and revolvers.

Moreover, a huge quantity of ammunition and explosives, comprising 1615 items, including INSAS Rifles, hand grenades, detonators, and locally crafted pistols, were also seized.

A total of 132 pieces of equipment were recovered during the search operation.

Search operations are ongoing in the outskirts and vulnerable areas of the state, which has experienced incidents of violence since May 3, 2023.
