Assam: Minor Assaulted During Durga Puja Celebration in Goalpara
Guwahati, 24th October: During the ongoing Durga Puja celebration in Goalpara district, Assam, an incident of moral policing came to light. On October 21, a 13-year-old boy named Mahiful Rahman was subjected to physical assault by an elderly man from the same village.
The incident occurred in Golapara’s Garujan village, under the jurisdiction of Dhumerghat Police Station. The boy was allegedly moving towards Ximolabari Bazaar when the owner of a tea shop, Hahjan Ali, assaulted him. Ali reportedly tied the minor boy to a tree and physically abused him.
The victim’s family claimed that Ali accused the boy of theft before resorting to violence, resulting in serious injuries to the minor. Local residents intervened to rescue the boy, and he was subsequently admitted to a hospital.
In response to the incident, the boy’s parents filed an FIR at the Dhumerghat Police Station, and authorities have initiated an investigation into the case. Such incidents of moral policing are a matter of concern and are being addressed by the police to ensure justice for the victim.
