Huge cache of arms and ammunition seized by security forces in Manipur

Northeast Desk, 25th October: A huge cache of arms and ammunition was seized on October 24 during search operations conducted by Manipur police in collaboration with security forces.

The operations targeted vulnerable areas in Kangpokpi, Bishnupur, Kakching, Thoubal, and Churachandpur districts. The recovered items included:

(i) Three firearms (one SLR with a magazine and two 12 bore country-made SBBLs), 20 12 bore rounds, 15 tear gas shells, and one 40mm Lathode Gun, along with five Pompi guns from Champai in the Leimakhong PS, Kangpokpi district.

(ii) Two firearms (A1(AB) rifle and G3 rifle), 51 explosives (32 HE hand grenades, 4 two-inch mortar shells, 11 handmade mine bombs, 4 WP smoke bombs), 20 Tube Launchers, 20 Arming rings, 2 detonators/fuses, and one BP Jacket from Gelbung Village in Kumbi PS, Bishnupur district.

(iii) Thirteen firearms (including AK 47, SLR, modified .303 Rifle, Insas Rifle, .303 Rifle, and SBBL), 6 Ballistic Cartridges, 16 explosives (11 HE hand grenades, 1 Chinese hand grenade, 3 WP grenades MK-I, and 1 local-made pipe bomb), along with detonators, Grenade Launching Tubes, magazines, BP vests, and Walkie Talkies from Wangoo Laiphum in Wangoo PS, Kakching district.

(iv) One 12 bore single barrel rifle, 4 explosives, a 40mm local-made grenade launcher, and a 40mm grenade launcher (tear gas gun) from Lamjang in Singhat PS, Churachandpur.

The authorities have taken significant measures to ensure the safety of these areas by removing these arms and ammunition.
