Assam’s Bornil Changmai Receives Heroic Welcome After Clinching Under-15 Asian Junior Badminton Gold
Guwahati, 25th October: Bornil Akash Changmai, hailing from Assam, received a warm welcome in his hometown of Assam’s Sivasagar after being crowned the Under-15 Asian Junior Champion.
Bornil, representing the Indian team in badminton, secured a gold medal in the U-15 category at the Badminton Asia Tournament held in Changdu, China, from October 17.
In the final match, Changmai triumphed over China’s Fan Hong Zhwan with a straight-game victory of 21-19 and 21-13 to claim the gold.
While speaking to reports, Bornil Changmai stated, “I am thrilled to have clinched the gold at the Asia Sub-Junior championship. I’m committed to putting in even more effort to achieve further accolades in the near future. I’d like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my academy for providing me with exceptional coaching. My ultimate goal is to secure a medal at the Olympics.”
Trained under the guidance of Coach Kabir Bora at the Cultural Badminton Academy in Sivasagar, Bornil has a history of winning numerous national and international medals.
The son of Bhupen Sangma and Jyoti Phukan, Bornil, a resident of Krishna Nagar in Sivasagar town, has brought immense joy to the local community.
Bornil, who arrived in Sivasagar on October 24, was accorded a grand welcome by the people.
