Assam: From land scam to murder mystery, allegation surrounds NC Hills Chief Debolal Gorlosa
Guwahati, 26th October: In a detailed report which have been exclusively covered by the sources of MyNewsNE, the tenure of Debolal Gorlosa as the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council from 2016 to the present day, serious allegations have come to light. Gorlosa, who is currently in the final stages of legal judgment, is implicated in two heinous criminal cases, Session Case No-18/08 and Session Case No-69/14, both of which include charges under IPC 302.
While he is CEM, various allegations have surfaced. These include encroachments on land belonging to various government departments for personal use and encroachments on Indian Railways land in Lower Haflong and other areas of the district, where he allegedly allowed his supporters to build houses without proper clearance from Railway Authorities. Additionally, he is accused of forcefully acquiring public land and houses at rates lower than government valuations in Haflong Town, Maibang Town, and other parts of Dima Hasao District.
The report highlights substantial financial irregularities, with large sums of money allegedly siphoned from major projects such as Assam Mala and the Mahur to Manipur NHIDCL road connectivity projects. These actions have reportedly created a climate of fear among both regular and entrusted department employees.
It is alleged that those who do not comply with his wishes face mental and physical harassment. Shockingly, three departmental officers have reportedly died due to such harassment: Kedar (Co-operative Deptt. Haflong) in 2016, Imran Ali (Superintending Engineer, PWD Haflong) in 2017, and Jagmohon Boro (Executive Engineer, PWD Haflong Road Division) in 2022. Additionally, two public individuals have been killed under his direction: Sanjit Hojai (Dihur Phonglo, Maibang) in 2017, which is his own brother-in-law and Santosh Hojai alias Saro Dimasa (Sibaraipur, Harangajao) in 2020.
Members of the victims’ families are said to be well aware of these incidents. Even the Executive Members of the Council are reported to be fearful of Gorlosa, as he apparently makes all departmental decisions and controls all funds, leaving little room for other Executive Members to carry out their duties. Furthermore, it is claimed that only selected individuals receive benefits from the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, and even BJP members are allegedly excluded from these privileges.
Gorlosa’s alleged use of physical violence against employees, especially those who oppose him, has been a recurring issue. The report concludes that Gorlosa has established a self-styled dictatorship within the district.
The report also accuses Gorlosa of controlling the coal industry in the area, collecting significant taxes from coal-carrying trucks in Umrangso and Garampani. He allegedly charges Rs. 100 per ton from coal vehicles coming from Assam Quarry and Rs. 3000 per truck for those imported from Meghalaya into Assam. Without his approval, no natural resources can be utilized, creating fear among coal contractors.
The teaching community in the district is reported to be severely affected by these actions. The allegations against Debolal Gorlosa, CEM of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, are a matter of grave concern and are currently under legal scrutiny.
