BJP Unveils Vision for Mizoram Elections with Focus on Development and Welfare
Northeast Desk, 27th October: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Jagat Prakash Nadda unveiled the party’s manifesto for the upcoming elections in Mizoram during a ceremony at the party’s state headquarters in Aizawl. The event saw the presence of notable figures such as Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, and others.
The vision document highlighted several key features and promises, with Nadda emphasizing the BJP’s commitment to the development and welfare of Mizoram. Some of the significant initiatives announced include:
- ‘Drug Free Mizoram’ Operation: The BJP intends to launch an operation to combat drug addiction among the youth in the state.
- ‘Mizoram Education Upgrade’ and ‘Zirlai Simathawana Mission’: These missions, with budgets of Rs 250 crore and Rs 350 crore respectively, aim to modernize government schools and colleges with state-of-the-art facilities.
- Mizoram Sports Academy: The party plans to establish a fully funded sports academy with scholarships for aspiring athletes, with a particular focus on football, wrestling, weightlifting, hockey, and badminton.
- Mizoram Olympic Mission: A mission to position Mizoram as a leading sporting state and ensure substantial contributions by Mizo youths to the Olympics medal tally.
- Upgrading Zoram Medical College: Collaboration with the Central government to elevate Zoram Medical College to the status of a Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).
- Queen Ropuiliani Women Empowerment Scheme: Every girl child will receive cumulative financial assistance of Rs 1.5 lakhs.
- 33% Reservation for Women in Government Jobs: The BJP pledges to reserve 33% of government sector jobs for women.
- Increased Health Insurance Coverage: Under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, the annual health insurance coverage will be increased from 5 lakhs to 10 lakhs.
- Enhanced Support for Farmers: The annual financial assistance for farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme will be raised from Rs 6,000 to Rs 8,000. Additionally, the BJP will introduce the Mizo Agri Mission with an investment of Rs 1000 crores to upgrade the state’s agricultural infrastructure.
- Resolution of Border Dispute: The party will collaborate with the Central and Assam governments to resolve the interstate border dispute between Mizoram and Assam while safeguarding the rights of Mizoram’s residents.
Nadda underscored the BJP’s commitment to the politics of performance, accountability, and development, emphasizing that the party’s vision focuses on equitable development across regions and communities, devoid of discrimination based on gender, caste, or region. The manifesto presents a comprehensive plan for Mizoram’s progress and welfare.
