Tripura: Bangladeshi woman crossed border to meet her Indian boyfriend, arrested

Northeast Desk, 28th October: A Bangladeshi woman named Fatema Nusrat landed in jail in Dharmanagar in North Tripura following a court order.

The order was as a result of her illegally crossing over to India with her paramour. They managed to cross into Indian Territory from the Moulvibazar district of Bangladesh on Wednesday night, managing the vigilance of the BSF and barbed wire fencing.

According to the police, Fatema Nusrat, a 24-year-old mother of two from Bangladesh, had fallen in love with Nur Jalal, a 34-year-old traditional hailer from Fulbari village, located near the Assam-Tripura border, during his visits to Bangladesh two months ago.

They initially met at the residence of her in-laws in Moulvibazar and continued to meet regularly.

As their relationship deepened, they decided to get married. However, given Fatema Nusrat’s existing marriage, they feared complications if their relationship became public. As a result, they eloped a week ago and entered India.

Acting on a tip-off, the police raided Jalal’s house in Fulbari on October 27, detaining Nusrat.

Jalal, sensing the police presence, managed to escape.

Later, Nusrat was presented before the court, and the Chief Judicial Magistrate of North Tripura remanded her to 14 days of judicial custody for illegally entering India, instructing the police to locate Jalal.

“We have filed a case of cheating against Nur Jalal and initiated a search,” stated OC Churaibari Samaresh Das, adding that the police were also exploring other potential links, such as smuggling and trafficking.
