Sikkim: Reopening of Teesta Stage 6 Barrage Deck

Northeast Desk, 30th October: Weeks after the devastating flash floods in Sikkim that washed away several roads and bridges, the Teesta Stage 6 barrage deck was opened on October 30. Namchi District Collector M Bharani Kumar explained that the entire area was disconnected after the flash floods on October 4, and a temporary bridge was constructed on top of the barrage deck to restore vehicle movement from Gangtok to Namchi.

A permanent bridge parallel to this barrage deck is also planned, which is expected to be operational in four months. Currently, heavy vehicles are not allowed on the barrage deck.
