“Northeastern Roads to Resemble U.S. Highways by 2024,” Announces Union Minister Nitin Gadkari
Guwahati, 31st October: Guwahati witnessed a promising declaration by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who oversees road transport and highways in India. During his visit to the region, Gadkari revealed the ambitious plans for the Northeastern region, stating that roads in the area will resemble those in the United States of America by the end of 2024.
The commitment to this transformation includes the execution of infrastructure development projects encompassing a total length of 17,470 kilometers, with a total investment of Rs 3 lakh crores in the Northeastern region.
Gadkari emphasized the role of regional contractors in the government’s ambitious plans, highlighting their good work. He expressed the government’s intention to provide work to local contractors, supporting regional development.
The union minister commended Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his contributions to the region’s infrastructure development. In Assam alone, the government has undertaken 248 projects with a total cost of approximately Rs 1 lakh crore, including upcoming ropeway projects and the multimodal hub at Jogighopa.
Gadkari also provided an overview of the ongoing and future projects in the Northeastern states, emphasizing the progress made and the investment dedicated to improving the region’s infrastructure. A total of 794 projects, covering 17,470 kilometers and costing Rs 3 lakh crores, have been initiated under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking a significant effort to enhance connectivity and development in the Northeastern region.
