Northeast Desk, 31st October: In response to the tragic killing of Chingtham Anand Kumar, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) in Moreh, the Manipur state Cabinet held an emergency meeting at the Chief Minister’s Office on October 31. The Cabinet expressed deep condemnation of the unprovoked firing by armed Kuki militants that resulted in the death of SDPO Chingtham Anand Kumar, while he was overseeing ground cleaning for a helipad construction project.
To honor Anand Kumar’s service, the Cabinet approved an ex-gratia compensation of Rs. 50 lakh and pledged to provide suitable employment to his bereaved family. They also directed the launch of a joint operation to capture those responsible for the crime and deployed additional state forces for this purpose.
Given Moreh’s strategic importance within India’s Act East Policy, the Cabinet declared a zero tolerance policy for illegal armed personnel within or near Moreh town. Additionally, the Cabinet approved the recommendation to declare the World Kuki-Zo Intellectual Council (WKZIC) an unlawful organization under section 3 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, in light of their press release foreseeing an imminent conflict within the Kuki-Zo community. An FIR had already been lodged against the organization.
