Essentials of Missing Assam Jawan in Ladakh Reach Home as He Remains Untraceable

Guwahati, 2nd November: In a heartrending development, two Indian Army officers arrived in Assam’s Dhemaji district to fulfill a solemn duty – returning the essential belongings of jawan Gautam Rajbongshi, a native of Dhemaji’s Gogamukh.

Gautam, along with three fellow soldiers, had tragically gone missing in Ladakh during a routine training exercise, when an unexpected avalanche near Mount Kun struck on October 8.

Despite tireless efforts, the bodies of these valiant soldiers have yet to be recovered.

In a poignant gesture of respect, the army officers visited Gautam’s hometown in Gogamukh on Thursday, handing over all his personal effects, including clothes, documents, and essential items, to his grieving family.

In the face of the harsh Ladakhi winter and heavy snowfall, the officers conveyed the grim reality that rescue operations are currently unfeasible. Instead, the arduous search is set to resume next year, possibly in April or May.

This heart-wrenching situation prompted Gautam’s wife, Sunu Rajbongshi, to pen a heartfelt plea to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, beseeching the Indian Army to initiate search and rescue operations to bring her husband, and his comrades, back home. The people of Dhemaji and beyond stand in solidarity with the brave soldiers’ families during this trying time.
