Assam: Elephant tramples man to death in Margherita

Guwahati, 2nd November: A sense of tension and fear has gripped Makum village in Makumkilla, under the 83 number Margherita Constituency of Tinsukia district, as a tragic incident unfolded on November 2.

An elderly man, 75-year-old Dadu Purti, met a tragic end when he was trampled to death by a wild elephant.

The wild elephant had ventured out of the forest in search of food and encountered the unfortunate incident in Nizmakum village, right in front of Dadu Purti’s residence. This harrowing occurrence has sent shockwaves through the area, leaving the community deeply disturbed.

Local residents have been living in fear recently, as wild elephants have been regularly straying into the area in search of food. Rampant deforestation has disrupted their natural habitats, bringing them closer to human settlements.

In response to this tragic event, forest department personnel from Margherita west range swiftly arrived at the scene to recover the body. As of the latest information, the body has been sent to Tinsukia Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination, and further investigations are ongoing.

The incident serves as a poignant reminder of the complex and often perilous interactions between wildlife and human communities in regions affected by deforestation.
