Assam: Laborers Rescued After Boat Capsizes in Brahmaputra River at Jogighopa

Guwahati, 2nd November: A potentially tragic incident was narrowly averted as six laborers found themselves in a precarious situation when the boat they were traveling in capsized in the Brahmaputra River at Jogighopa in Bongaigaon district.

The incident occurred on Thursday, November 2, while the laborers were en route to their work site for the construction of the Jogighopa-Goalpara Bridge under the supervision of the A.P. Singhlal construction company.

Fortunately, they were rescued by another boat that happened to be nearby. The exact cause of the boat capsizing remains unknown.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety precautions and vigilance during transportation on waterways.

In a related incident earlier in August, approximately 32 passengers narrowly escaped a potentially catastrophic accident on a ferry boat in the Dibang River in Sadia, located in Assam’s Tinsukia district.

The boat capsized after striking an underwater wooden structure, causing it to sink near Amarpur Ghat. Fortunately, individuals on the river bank promptly noticed the incident and took action, preventing further harm. These occurrences highlight the need for increased safety awareness and measures in water transportation.
