Tripura Chief Minister Applauds Tripura State Rifles for Countering Insurgency

Northeast Desk, 3rd November: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha commended the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawans for their significant role in countering insurgency and maintaining law and order in the state. He made this statement during his address at the passing out parade of the new batch of TSR-IR (men & women) at the KTDS Police Training Academy in Agartala.

The Tripura State Rifles was established in response to the growing insurgency in Tripura during the 1980s. It was modeled after the Central Para Military Force (CPMF), and the Tripura Legislative Assembly passed the Tripura State Rifles Act in 1983. The 1st Battalion of TSR was formed on March 12, 1984.

In a significant development, women have now been included in TSR.

Chief Minister Saha praised the tireless efforts of TSR in combating insurgency and their dedication beyond regular duties. He mentioned that TSR played a pivotal role in maintaining security, especially along the border with Bangladesh, given Tripura’s 856 km border. Additionally, TSR personnel are stationed in and around the Parliament in New Delhi and deployed in Chhattisgarh. They are also dispatched for election duties in various states.
