Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, known as the Bard of Brahmaputra, was born on September 8, 1926, in the town of Sadiya, Assam. His contributions to music and culture are immeasurable, and his work continues to resonate with people of all generations.
Recipient of the prestigious Bharat Ratna, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s legacy lives on through his timeless songs and compositions. On November 5, 2011, this legendary artist left this world, passing away at the age of 85 at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai due to age-related ailments. Today, people across the state of Assam and beyond come together to honor the memory of this great artist and celebrate the indelible mark he left on Indian music and culture.
