Assam: ULFA(I) Abduction Mission Thwarted as Two Militants Surrender, Cache of Arms Seized

Guwahati, 5th November: In a significant development, nine members of the banned militant outfit United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) ventured out on an abduction mission in Tinsukia district of Assam on October 18, 2023. The group assigned to the task included key members such as Mriganga Asom (Area commander), Nabajit Asom (2nd IC), I-wan Asom, Ban Asom, Bonjit Asom, Uma Asom, Nanu Asom, Latest Asom alias Kulang Moran, and Gopal Asom alias Polash Moran.

Remarkably, two of the group’s members, Polash Moran alias Gopal Asom and Kulang Moran alias Latest Asom, decided to abandon their mission and surrendered to the police. Polash Moran surrendered on November 1, and Kulang Moran, who was tasked by Area Commander Mriganko Asom to locate Polash Moran, surrendered on November 4.

Subsequent interrogations confirmed the group’s departure on a mission. In light of this development, area domination efforts continue based on gathered intelligence, and the security of vulnerable individuals is being reviewed.

In a significant seizure, the security forces have recovered 6 AK rifles, 1 HK, a grenade launcher with 20 shells, 1 pistol, and 1 hand grenade, further reinforcing efforts to ensure peace and security in the region.
