Guwahati, 6th November: In a significant development related to the shocking murder of the Imam at Makum Kalabari mosque in Assam’s Tinsukia district, the state police have apprehended the prime accused in the case, who had initially served as the only eyewitness.

In a rather surprising twist, the accused now in custody, Ibrahim Ahmed, was the individual who had approached the media in the morning hours, confirming the killing of the Imam at the crime scene.

In response to questions about the circumstances, a senior Tinsukia police official said, “Yesterday saw a sensitive murder occurrence in the Makum Kalabari neighborhood. With the aid of the locals, we were able to solve the case in a very short amount of time. The case’s principal accused has been taken into custody. Our inquiry is still ongoing, but the matter is under control.”

The initial incident involved the disturbing murder of the Imam, who had his throat slit with a machete in the early hours of Sunday. The victim, Tejibur Islam (55), originally hailed from Bihar.

The eyewitness gave a statement to the media and stated, “I tried to stop the man from behind when I saw him attacking the Imam with a machete while he was praying in the morning. He has since been arrested by Assam police for his alleged involvement in the murder case.” After I pulled him outside the mosque, he shoved me and ran away. Then I called for help, but it was too early in the morning for anyone to answer. The Imam was immediately assassinated.”
