Tripura Police Apprehend Women Smugglers with Infants Carrying 12 Kilograms of Cannabis
Northeast Desk, 6th November: In a significant development, Tripura Police apprehended seven women accompanied by infants at Dharmanagar Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in North District on Monday. The police seized a total of 12 kilograms of cannabis, which had been concealed on their bodies using sellotape.
North District shares an interstate boundary with Assam and Mizoram, making it a potential transit point for illegal activities.
The Officer-in-Charge of Dharmanagar Police Station, Narugopal Dey, explained that they received information from North District Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty regarding the suspicious movements of the women, some of whom were carrying infants, at Dharmanagar ISBT.
Acting on this information, the police detained seven women who had arrived from Agartala and were planning to travel outside the state by road. Upon conducting a search at the police station, the officers discovered 12 kilograms of cannabis concealed on their bodies. Shockingly, the women had also used their infants to smuggle the illegal substance.
The arrested women were identified as Dulia Devi (25), Gunjan Devi (25), Parvati Devi (30), Asha Kumari (25), Manupati Devi (35), Rinku Devi (25), and Pinaki Devi (25). It is noteworthy that all seven women were accompanied by infants ranging in age from one and a half to three months old.
