Assam: Locals Unmask Alleged Extortionists Impersonating ULFA-I Operatives in Dhekiajuli
Guwahati, 9th November: In a dramatic sequence of events, two individuals faced the wrath of vigilant locals in Assam’s Dhekiajuli, after allegedly attempting to extort money by impersonating members of the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) and brandishing a pistol.
The suspects, identified as Baloram Basumatary and Jajiya Narzary, claimed affiliation with the insurgent group.
They reportedly tried to extort a substantial sum of money from Dalong Mampha, a resident of the Panbari area in Dhekiajuli. The demanded amount was a staggering Rs 7 lakhs.
When Mampha failed to meet their extortion demands, he was reportedly physically assaulted by the duo. However, news of this criminal act soon reached the local community, sparking outrage.
On Wednesday night, an enraged group of residents confronted Basumatary and Narzary, delivering a swift and rough form of street justice. The two alleged extortionists were subjected to a beating before being handed over to the police for further legal action.
During the confrontation, the pistol that was purportedly used to intimidate the victim was confiscated from the suspects.
