Assam: Seized Elephant ‘Babu’ Passes Away, Raising Concerns Over Captive Animal Welfare

Guwahati, 10th November: In a tragic incident, an elephant named “Babu” which was seized by Assam Forest authorities from Jorhat in March this year after which it was relocated to Kaziranga has passed away today (November 10).

As per sources, Babu died due to the lack of microchipping by the owner.

Moreover, the Mahout, who had cared for ‘Babu’ for 25 years, also alleges that the elephant died due to being kept in captivity without proper nourishment.

The transfer of ‘Babu’ was prompted by the owner’s failure to microchip the elephant, leading to its relocation.

This incident raises significant concerns about the welfare and treatment of animals in captivity.

The circumstances leading to ‘Babu’s death highlight the need for strict regulations and standards to ensure the well-being of animals seized or kept in captivity, emphasizing the importance of proper care, nourishment, and living conditions for such creatures.
