Mizoram: 150 Fresh Refugees Seek Shelter as Myanmar Jets Bomb Near Border

Northeast Desk, 13th November: Around 150 Myanmarese nationals sought refuge in Mizoram following the recent bombing near the Indo-Myanmar border by Myanmarese fighter jets. Reports indicate that the influx coincides with the heavy firing between the Myanmar army and the Chinland Defence Force, situated just 4 kilometers from Mizoram.

Amidst the conflict, around 17 individuals, either refugees or members of the Chinland Defence Force, entered Mizoram with injuries. Some have been directed to seek medical attention at the District Hospital in Champhai.

The recent surge of refugees follows the incident where Myanmarese fighter jets dropped bombs in areas near the Mizoram border on November 13. Authorities have issued advisories for residents near the border, particularly in Zokhawthar, urging them to stay at home due to the ongoing hostilities.

It’s noteworthy that Mizoram has been hosting more than 31,000 refugees from Myanmar, primarily from Chin state, since the military coup in February 2021. The State government continues to provide relief materials to support the displaced population amid the persistent regional unrest.
