Assam: Youth Arrested From Gourisagar for Threatening Assam Cabinet Minister Atul Bora with Death

Guwahati, 16th November: A 31-year-old youth has been detained by the police for allegedly issuing a death threat against Cabinet Minister Atul Bora. The arrest follows a directive from Assam’s Director General of Police (DGP) Gyanendra Pratap Singh to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to take legal action in response to the threat posted in a social media comment section.

The CID, through its investigation, traced the user behind the social media account responsible for the threat. The user, operating under the name ‘Pranash Shandilya,’ claimed to have planted an explosive in Minister Atul Bora’s quarters under the alleged direction of the banned militant group United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I).

The suspect, identified as Nip Pratim Baruah from Bamun Moran Gaon village in Assam’s Gourisagar, was apprehended following a raid.

The threat, initially posted on Tuesday (November 14) in a Facebook comment section, prompted immediate action from law enforcement.

Nip Pratim Baruah was apprehended following a raid at his residence.

The DGP emphasized the gravity of such threats against elected representatives, stating that they undermine the democratic polity.

Atul Bora, who heads the regional political party Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and holds key portfolios in the state government, including agriculture, animal husbandry and veterinary, implementation of Assam Accord, and border protection and development, is expected to receive enhanced security measures in light of the incident.
