IMD Issues Red Alert for Thunderstorms and Intense Rainfall in Northeastern States
Northeast Desk, 17th November: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for the northeastern region, specifically placing Tripura and Mizoram on ‘Red Alert.’ The forecast warns of impending thunderstorms and intense rainfall over the next 24 hours.
IMD indicates that Mizoram and Tripura are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, with extremely heavy rainfall (more than 204.4mm) expected on November 17. The districts of South, Gomati, Sepahijala, and Dhalai in Tripura are particularly at risk of extremely heavy rainfall, while the North, Unakuti, Khowai, and West Tripura districts may witness heavy to very heavy rainfall.
On November 18, all districts of Tripura are expected to receive heavy rainfall (7-11 cm in 24 hours). Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura should prepare for heavy to very heavy rainfall on both November 17 and 18, with the possibility of extremely heavy falls in isolated areas.
In addition, South Assam and East Meghalaya are forecasted to experience light to moderate rainfall on both November 17 and 18. Residents in these regions are advised to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions.
