Assam Cabinet Announces 2% Reduction on Electronic Vehicle Purchases

Guwahati, 17th November: The Assam state cabinet has decided to incentivize the adoption of electronic vehicles (EVs) by introducing a 2% reduction on purchases until March 31, 2025.

This reduction translates to an 8% tax on EVs with a cost ranging between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 20 lakh, down from the current 10%.

The move is aimed at encouraging more individuals to transition to EVs, contributing significantly to building a greener Assam. The decision was made during the weekly cabinet meeting held on Thursday.

The state government had previously taken steps towards bolstering the EV ecosystem by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Power EV Charging Solutions Limited in October 2023.

This collaboration aims to enhance the EV charging infrastructure in Guwahati, with the introduction of 10 advanced EV chargers strategically placed in high-traffic areas like Dispur, marking the beginning of a pilot project.
