Assam: 3 Injured as Water Tank Collapses at Jal Jeevan Mission Site

Guwahati, 25th November: In a devastating turn of events, the Jal Jeevan Mission project in Assam witnessed another tragedy as an under-construction water tank collapsed at Merapani in Golaghat district. According to sources, three workers fell from the structure, sustaining major injuries. Currently in critical condition, the injured workers are undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

This incident adds to a series of safety concerns surrounding the Jal Jeevan Mission project, marked by earlier cases of negligence leading to fatalities. In September, two workers lost their lives after accidentally falling into a water-filled tank at the Hatichong site in Nagaon district. The victims were identified as Amir Hussain and Saifuddin.

The month of October witnessed another fatal mishap when a worker, Nitu Bordoloi from Morigaon district, tragically fell from an under-construction water tank at Nawboicha in Lakhimpur district.

In the latest unfortunate incident on Friday, two workers were electrocuted to death in Gogamukh. The tragic event occurred when the workers, identified as Kushal Chutia and Mukul Changmai from Lakhimpur’s Ghilamara, came in contact with an 11,000-volt electric wire while installing an electric post at the Mingmang site in Gogamukh.

These recurring incidents underscore the pressing need for enhanced safety measures and stricter adherence to protocols at Jal Jeevan Mission project sites to prevent further tragedies and protect the lives of workers involved in this critical infrastructure initiative.
