Major Blow to ULFA-I as Four Senior Cadres Surrender in Guwahati

Guwahati, 29th November: In a significant development, four senior members of the United Liberation Front of Axom-Independent (ULFA-I) surrendered at the Assam Police Headquarters in Guwahati. The surrender took place in the presence of Assam Director General of Police GP Singh, Special DGP Harmeet Singh, and other high-ranking police officials.

The surrendered ULFA-I leaders were identified as Dipok Hatiboruah alias Dibya Axom, Nayann Patmaut alias Bikram Axom, Montu Moran alias Latest Axom alias Kulang Moran, and Palash Moran alias Gopal Axom.

Dipok Hatiboruah, also known as Dibya Axom, held the rank of S/S LT in the outlawed organization and joined ULFA-I on May 25, 2011. He received three months of warfare training in Myanmar and surrendered before Charaideo police on November 24, 2023.

Nayann Patmaut, known as Bikram Axom, served as S/S Captain and joined ULFA-I in 2010. He, too, underwent three months of warfare training in Myanmar and surrendered alongside Dibya Axom, depositing weapons including two Thailand Hand Grenades, one Austria-made 9×19 Pistol, and 25 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Palash Moran, alias Gopal Axom, and Montu Moran, alias Latest Axom, surrendered in Tinsukia on November 2 and 3, 2023, respectively. Montu Moran, holding the rank of S/S CPL, joined ULFA-I on December 4, 2018, while Palash Moran, with no specific rank, joined in 2021. Both underwent warfare training in Myanmar.

These surrenders mark a significant setback for ULFA-I, with the senior cadres opting to abandon insurgency and contribute to peace in the region.
