BJP Leader Suvendu Adhikari Suspended for Winter Session over Remarks to West Bengal Speaker

National Desk, 29th November: Senior BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, faced suspension for the entire winter session of the West Bengal Assembly on Tuesday. The suspension was imposed due to alleged “objectionable remarks” directed at Speaker Biman Banerjee during a heated discussion in the Constitution Day session.

Expressing dismay over Adhikari’s behavior, West Bengal Parliamentary Minister Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, with 32 years in the House, called it unprecedented and shameful. The motion for suspension, initiated by Deputy Chief Whip Tapas Roy, accused Adhikari of disrespecting the Speaker.

The tumult in the Assembly arose from BJP’s concerns about the legitimacy of defected MLAs retaining positions, which the ruling party, along with the Speaker, dismissed. Adhikari emphasized their grievances, particularly regarding the nomination of Mukul Roy, leading to chaos.

The winter session, currently underway, is scheduled to conclude on December 7. Adhikari’s suspension adds a new dimension to the ongoing political dynamics in West Bengal’s legislative proceedings.
