Congress Calls for INDIA Alliance Meeting on December 6 Following BJP’s Electoral Success

National Desk, 3rd December: As the BJP surpassed the halfway mark in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, Congress convened a meeting for the next Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) partners in New Delhi on Wednesday, December 6. Party chief Mallikarjun Kharge reached out to alliance partners, including INC, DMK, and Trinamool Congress, to inform them about the upcoming meeting.

This meeting gains significance in the aftermath of the December 3 election results in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Mizoram. It serves as a crucial precursor to the Lok Sabha polls scheduled for next year.

INDIA, a coalition led by the Indian National Congress, was formed to counter the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha poll. Originating from an opposition party meeting in Bengaluru in July 2023, the alliance includes major political parties.

The previous opposition meeting, hosted by Shiv Sena (UBT) President Uddhav Thackeray, witnessed the presence of Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and chief ministers from five states. Over two days, the alliance deliberated on key electoral issues, established a coordination committee, and passed a three-point resolution to collectively contest the 2024 Indian general elections.

In response to Congress’s underwhelming performance in the assembly elections, Janata Dal (United) General Secretary Nikhil Mandal expressed dissatisfaction on microblogging site X. Mandal criticized Congress leadership, suggesting that the INDIA alliance should be led by Nitish Kumar. He noted that Congress, preoccupied with the five-state elections, neglected the alliance, leading to disappointing results. Mandal emphasized Nitish Kumar’s role as the architect of the alliance and his ability to navigate through challenging circumstances.
