Northeast Desk, 4th December: Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) is poised to oust MNF, eyeing a historic victory. Leading in crucial constituencies, ZPM secures a majority, clinching the Tawi Assembly seat with Lalnilawma emerging as the victor.
ZPM party enthusiasts are already reveling in an early Christmas celebration. Contesting all 40 assembly seats in Mizoram alongside MNF and Congress, ZPM has paved the way for a significant political shift. In contrast, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) contested in only 23 seats. The assembly polls, held on November 7, witnessed a robust 80.43% voter turnout.
Originally slated for December 3, the counting day was rescheduled to December 4 by the Election Commission. This decision comes in response to numerous requests from within Mizoram, advocating for a weekday count. Chief Electoral Officer Madhup Vyas confirmed the acceptance of the request, citing the significance of Sundays for church duties and prayers.
