Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) Secures Strong Mandate, Set to Form Independent Government in Mizoram

Northeast Desk, 4th December: Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) is on the verge of securing a substantial victory in Mizoram, leading in 26 seats and signaling its intent to form a government independently. In contrast, the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) trails with only ten seats.

As ZPM asserts its dominance, the Congress holds a lead in one seat, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leads in three seats. ZPM has reportedly directed its winning MLAs to assemble in Aizawl, indicating the party’s confidence in achieving a comfortable majority without forming alliances.

With over 80% voter turnout, 174 candidates contested for the 40-member state assembly. To secure a government in Mizoram, a party needs to surpass the halfway mark of 21 seats.

The Congress, once influential in Mizoram, is expected to secure a modest 2-4 seats, while the BJP is projected to settle with 0-2 seats, according to initial results and exit polls. ZPM’s anticipated vote share stands at 49%, highlighting the strong mandate the party has received from the people of Mizoram.
