Rajya Sabha Lifts Suspension of AAP MP Raghav Chadha

National Desk, 4th December: In a significant development, the Rajya Sabha on Monday lifted the suspension of Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha, who had been suspended during the Monsoon session on August 11 over allegations of breaching privileges.

Chadha, representing Punjab in the Rajya Sabha, faced suspension due to his alleged failure to seek consent from five fellow MPs before including their names in a select committee. This committee was tasked with reviewing the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill 2023, aimed at reducing the authority of the elected AAP government in Delhi over services.

The matter was taken up by the Privileges Committee after a complaint from the five MPs, leading to Chadha’s suspension until the committee finalized its report.

As the winter session commenced, a motion by BJP MP GVL Narsimha Rao led to the revocation of Chadha’s suspension. The Privileges Committee of the Rajya Sabha convened this afternoon to discuss the matter.

Following the suspension’s revocation, Raghav Chadha expressed his gratitude in a video message, thanking the Supreme Court and Rajya Sabha Chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar. He stated, “On 11th August, I was suspended from the Rajya Sabha. I went to the Supreme Court for the revocation of my suspension. The Supreme Court took cognizance of this, and now, my suspension has been revoked after 115 days… I am happy that my suspension has been removed, and I want to thank the Supreme Court and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar.”
