Sikkim CM Submits Key Demands Memorandum to Home Minister Amit Shah

Northeast Desk, 6th December: Sikkim’s Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, took a significant step by presenting a memorandum to Home Minister Amit Shah.

The memorandum addressed crucial issues, including the reservation of Limboo-Tamang seats in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly (SLA) and the tribal status recognition for 12 indigenous communities.

The Chief Minister initiated the meeting by submitting a comprehensive report on behalf of the state government, with subsequent memorandums from the Limboo-Tamang committee and EIECOS+1 representative.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Tamang passionately emphasized the importance of these demands for the state, seeking the intervention of Union Minister Shah to address these pressing matters. Raju Basnet, the Convener of EIECOS+1, provided historical context to support the community’s claims.

Union Minister Shah expressed his assurance in thoroughly examining the matter and committed to following the standard procedure, providing corresponding responses from the ministry.

 The delegation, including key state officials, ministers, and community representatives, showcased a united effort to address these significant concerns.

The delegation featured Arun Upreti, Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, Cabinet Ministers BS Panth, Sanjit Kharel, and Bhim Hang Subba, MP Lok Sabha Indra Hang Subba, Chief Secretary VB Pathak, and representatives from the Eleven Indigenous Ethnic Communities of Sikkim + 1 (EIECOS+1), T.N Dhakal Committee, and the Limboo-Tamang seat reservation committee in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly (SLA).
