Arunachal Man Receives 20-Year Sentence for Raping 12-Year-Old, Imposed with Rs 10,000 Fine

Northeast Desk, 13th December: In a significant verdict, a man in Arunachal Pradesh, identified as Tami Tatak, has been sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment and fined Rs 10,000 for raping a 12-year-old girl.

The judgment was delivered by the Special Judge (POCSO Act), East Siang district, under the provisions of Section 376/506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) read with Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The survivor and the perpetrator were close relatives, as confirmed by an official press release.

The horrifying incident came to light in August 2021 when the survivor, who had fallen seriously ill, disclosed the repeated assaults by Tami Tatak to her younger sister.

The survivor faced severe injuries, affecting her ability to walk properly. The judge, while delivering the verdict, emphasized that the accused committed an offense under Section 5 (m) (n) of the POCSO Act, considering the victim’s age.

The court found Tami Tatak guilty of aggravated penetrative sexual assault, leading to the stringent 20-year imprisonment and the imposed fine.
