Security Breach in Parliament Gallery; Visitors Allegedly Release Foul Gas
National Desk, 13th December: The Lok Sabha session faced an unexpected disruption on December 13 when an unidentified visitor allegedly jumped into the chamber from the gallery, prompting the House’s adjournment.
Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi claimed that two individuals released a foul-smelling yellow gas inside the Parliament gallery, leading to chaos as MPs rushed to apprehend them.
Gogoi expressed concern about the security of the new Parliament building, emphasizing the need for a thorough evaluation. Earlier that day, both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha commenced proceedings by honoring the victims of the 2001 Parliament attack.
In the Rajya Sabha, the question hour became heated, with discussions on student suicides and period leave. Meanwhile, in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the ‘Provisional Collection of Taxes Bill, 2023.’
Simultaneously, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other political leaders paid tribute to the fallen Jawans at the old Parliament building on the 22nd anniversary of the Parliament Attack. Alongside Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda, and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, PM Modi interacted with the families of the Jawans who sacrificed their lives in the 2001 attack.
PM Modi, sharing his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), said, “Today, we remember and pay heartfelt tributes to the brave security personnel martyred in the Parliament attack in 2001. Their courage and sacrifice in the face of danger will forever be etched in our nation’s memory.”
