Complete Air Connectivity Achieved in North Eastern India with UDAN Scheme
Northeast Desk, 16th December: The North Eastern region of India has achieved full air connectivity, linking the states of Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh via air services since 2014. The Union Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, under the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) Scheme, has played a crucial role in expanding air travel infrastructure. The UDAN Scheme identified 36 airports, heliports, and water aerodromes for the development and operation of Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) flights.
Currently, 68 RCS routes are operational in the North Eastern states, representing a significant improvement in the accessibility of air travel for the residents of the region. The achievement underscores the commitment to enhancing connectivity and accessibility, fostering regional development.
