Guwahati, 17th December: In a significant crackdown, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption apprehended the executive engineer of Sorbhog-Jania Division (Irrigation) in Assam’s Barpeta district. The arrest unfolded on Saturday following the engineer, identified as Sanjib Kumar Das, accepting bribe money.
Acting on a formal complaint, the vigilant team strategically laid a trap, capturing Das red-handed as he received the demanded bribe from the complainant in exchange for releasing a security deposit.
Post-arrest, the anti-corruption unit swiftly conducted a raid at the engineer’s residence in Barpeta, unearthing a substantial amount of Rs. 12,00,000 in cash. The operation underscores the commitment to combat corruption and uphold integrity within the ranks of public service in Assam.
