Assam: Fake anti-corruption officers apprehended for extorting truckers in Bongaigaon
Guwahati, 19th December: Seven individuals in Assam’s Bongaigaon have been booked over charges for impersonating Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials and conducting unauthorized raids on truckers along National Highway 27, which connects Chaprakata under Bongaigaon Sadar police station.
Their alleged attempt to extort money from a truck driver from Rajasthan resulted in legal action.
According to the victim’s account, just before their arrest, a passenger vehicle displaying “Police” on the windshield and registered as AS-01-EJ-6934 seized the keys and documents of a 14-wheeler with registration number RJ 02-GC-2834 on NH 27. This incident prompted the Bongaigaon police to intervene swiftly.
Subsequently, a raid was conducted, leading to the apprehension of Bapan Debnath from Bijni, Shamla Basumatary from Kajalgaon, and Niranjan Debnath, Bukho Narzary, Tarun Deori, and Durga Narzary from Bongaigaon. In connection with the unauthorized operation, the police also confiscated the Bolero vehicle with “Police” markings. The swift action by the authorities underscores their commitment to addressing such incidents and maintaining law and order.
