Assam: Bangladeshi cattle smugglers shot by BSF Near Indo-Bangladesh Border
Guwahati, 20th December: The Border Security Force (BSF) took decisive action against suspected cattle smugglers in the Hatibandha Upazila area of Lalmonirhat District, Rangpur division, Bangladesh on December 16. Lieutenant Colonel Mofazzal Hossain Akand, Commander of Lalmonirhat Battalion (15 Bangladesh Border Guard), reported that three smugglers were incapacitated in their attempt to cross the Indo-Bangladesh international barbed wire fence near the Daikhawa BOP camp.
The BSF, stationed at the Daikhawa BOP camp, opened fire on the suspected smugglers when they attempted to breach the fence, preventing their entry into India. The injured individuals were identified as Rony Mia, Sujon, and Hakim Mia, who were subsequently taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for treatment.
According to Lance Nayek Md Bashir Ullah of the Daikhawa BOP camp, the smugglers attempted to cross the barbed wire fence in dense fog near the Bannigara area. The BSF patrol unit from the Indian Baramaricha camp fired six or seven shots, resulting in injuries to the smugglers.
While two of the injured were admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, the third is receiving treatment at an alternative location. The incident highlights the ongoing efforts to curb illegal activities along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
