Meghalaya Government Approves Increase in Dearness Allowance for Employees and Pensioners
Northeast Desk, 20th December: In a significant move, the Meghalaya government has announced a hike in Dearness Allowance/Dearness Relief for all categories of State Government employees, pensioners, and family pension holders. The existing rate of 36 per cent will be raised to 39 per cent, effective from July 1, 2023.
This decision extends to members of the work-charged establishment and casual workers, excluding Bungalow Peons, holding positions in the pay levels equivalent to those in the regular establishment/services/posts.
However, it’s noteworthy that the Dearness Relief covered by these orders will be temporarily suspended if pensioners/family pensioners secure employment or are re-employed under the State/Central Government or permanently absorbed in the State’s or Central Government’s Company, Corporation, Undertaking, or Autonomous Body. The suspension will be lifted upon completion of such employment or re-employment.
Additionally, the payment concerning Dearness Allowance/Dearness Relief, including fractions of 50 paise and above, will be rounded off to the next higher rupee, while fractions less than 50 paise will be disregarded.
The financial implications of the increased Dearness Allowance/Dearness Relief will be debited to the respective heads of accounts from which employees receive their salary, and pensioners/family pension holders will see adjustments in their pension accordingly. This move is expected to provide financial relief to the beneficiaries and contribute to their economic well-being.
