Manipur: Naga Women’s Union Strongly Condemns Targeted Harassment, Calls for End to Threats

Northeast Desk, 22nd December: Amidst rising violence and targeted harassment in Manipur, the Naga Women’s Union issues a resounding plea for the cessation of threats and abductions perpetrated by armed miscreants against Naga women. The call comes as disturbing incidents shake the Naga community in the region.

As Christmas festivities embrace the area, the union’s President, Ch. Priscilla Thiumai, denounces the trend of armed miscreants disguising coercive acts as taxation or extortion. In a press statement, the union emphasizes the unacceptability of physically harassing and abducting Naga women, urging an end to such villainous acts.

The statement highlights the detrimental impact of such actions on the larger aspirations of the state and the nation. It calls attention to the serious yet unwarranted route undertaken by armed miscreants, emphasizing that extortions and abductions are not signs of a civilized society.

As the festive season approaches, the Naga Women’s Union remains steadfast in its stance against women’s harassment, seeking support from Civil Society Organizations to foster peaceful coexistence through mutual understanding and kindness. The community remains vigilant, hopeful for justice and an end to the threats casting a shadow over their lives.
