Assam: Police Shoot and Injure Suspected ULFA-I Member in Kamrup Rural District
Guwahati, 25th December: In a recent incident in the Salmara area at Baihata Chariali, Kamrup Rural district of Assam, police shot and injured a young man suspected to be associated with the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I). The injured individual, identified as Pranjal Das, sustained a leg injury, leaving him immobile. The circumstances leading to the shooting and the reasons for police intervention remain unclear.
This incident follows a similar occurrence in Assam’s Tinsukia district, where three youths, identified as Biswanath Buragohain, Manoj Buragohain, and Nabin Neog, were allegedly injured by police gunfire over suspicions of their connection with ULFA-I. The injured individuals received initial treatment at Tinsukia Civil Hospital and were later transferred to Assam Medical College and Hospital for advanced medical care.
These incidents come in the wake of Assam’s Director General of Police, GP Singh’s, public warning that individuals supporting or joining government-banned terrorist groups would face arrest and prosecution. He also cautioned against social media posts related to banned organizations.
