Assam Police Detains Youth Linked to ULFA-I, Connection Emerges in CRPF Camp Blast Investigation

Guwahati, 25th December: In a significant development on December 25, Assam Police apprehended a youth in Sivasagar over alleged connections with the banned militant group United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I). The detained individual, identified as Dipu Dowarah, is suspected to be associated with previously arrested youths, Pallabjyoti Gogoi and Deep Lahan, who were taken into custody in relation to the recent grenade blast near the CRPF camp in Joysagar on December 9.

Pallabjyoti Gogoi, arrested on Friday, is under treatment after sustaining injuries in a police encounter, having been accused of involvement in the Jaisagar blast. The police claim direct involvement of Gogoi in the incident and cite his previous arrest in 2019 for allegedly staying in the ULFA Swadhin camp for a month. However, Gogoi’s father vehemently denies these claims, stating that he and his son were watching TV at home during the December 9 blast.

Adding complexity to the situation, during a Sunday night operation resulting in the seizure of 10 pistol bullets and 11 rounds of AK47 bullets, the police were compelled to use force, shooting Pallabjyoti Gogoi as he attempted to escape.
