Assam: CBI Files Chargesheet Against Former Oil India Limited Engineer for Disproportionate Assets

Guwahati, 30th December: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet against Karun Jyoti Baruah, former Superintending Engineer (Civil) at Oil India Limited (OIL) in Duliajan, Assam, and his wife Jonali Baruah. The charges pertain to possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.

The investigation revealed that the Baruahs had allegedly accumulated assets worth approximately Rs 1,17,54,650, exceeding their legitimate earnings by 38% during the period from April 1, 2009, to March 31, 2019.

The case, registered on October 20, 2021, under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, has led to the chargesheet based on evidence collected during the CBI’s investigation.

It’s important to note that, as per Indian law, the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The chargesheet initiates the formal legal proceedings to address the allegations through the judicial system.
