BSF in Meghalaya Foils Cattle Smuggling Attempt

Northeast Desk, 30th December: The Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya demonstrated their commitment to border security by intercepting a cattle smuggling operation along the international border with Bangladesh. Video footage shared by Shillong BSF showcased armed personnel amidst the rescued cattle destined for illegal transport.

Acting on specific information, BSF Meghalaya successfully rescued 47 buffaloes in various operations, preventing their smuggling into Bangladesh. The BSF’s vigilance is crucial for guarding against trans-border crimes, unauthorized entries, smuggling, and other illegal activities.

Cattle smuggling from India to Bangladesh remains a lucrative illegal trade due to high demand in Bangladeshi slaughterhouses. Despite risks involved, including transportation costs and bribes, smugglers continue this trade. The recent efforts of BSF Meghalaya aim to combat this issue, with increased patrolling and community sensitization.

The successful interception on December 30 reflects the BSF’s ongoing commitment to prevent economic loss, uphold the law, and contribute to the stability and security of the region.
